The mayoral campaign of Jersey City City Councilman Steve Fulop yesterday revealed its plans to combat crime in New Jersey’s second largest city.

Increasing community policing, employing more civilians to fill administrative roles and boosting communication between police officers and community groups are among the items Fulop’s camp believes will lower crime.

Fulop told The Jersey Journal he feels he would be able to implement his plans without raising taxes significantly.

 A property-service workers union representing about 9,000 New Jersey office cleaners, security guards and others today endorsed Jersey City City Councilman Steve Fulop’s bid for mayor.

 Jersey City Ward E City Councilman Steve Fulop’s 2013 mayoral bid announced the endorsement today of some of the city’s Latino leaders, including the former councilman Fulop unseated when he first joined the council seven years ago.

 One-Time Revenue to Match One-Time Expense

Ward E Councilman Steven Fulop is proposing a fiscally sound alternative to a controversial $9.5 million bond scheme proposed by the Healy administration to pay for retiring city workers that failed to pass the City Council last month.

Many people have asked about the election this Tuesday. As hard as it might be to focus on it right now, the election is happening. I am trying to keep in mind, and I hope you will, too, that our current challenges will pass, but the Tuesday election will have an impact long into the future on the local level.

World War II veteran and retired Jersey City cop George L. Polasky, 94, has never met Calvin J. Spann, but says he owes his life to him and other fighter pilots with the Tuskegee Airmen.

In 1944, Polasky flew 50 bombing missions as a navigator with the 15th Air Force, 484th Bombing Squadron from Torretto Airfield in the Foggia Airfield Complex near the east coast of Italy during World War II.

After receiving hundreds of toy donations in last year’s toy drive, Ward E Councilman Steve Fulop has announced his second holiday toy drive on Sunday, December 11th, from 12-3pm at his office (353 2nd Street).

“Last year we raised close to $5,000 in toys in our first try and this year I am hoping we can do more,” Fulop said in an email to JCI. The councilman added that the headquarters has thus far only been open for one weekend and already “it is piling up with coats and toys. Jersey City is remarkable in its sense of community.”
